Very good post.

I have an admittedly picky point. You write, "But as voters, you have done everything you could to keep these poor people from competing in First World labor markets on equal terms."

My guess is that many of them don't vote. And I know that they don't get to vote on immigration laws. If we had a referendum on immigration, I would be fairly confident that you're right. But we don't.

My edit would be, "But as citizens you have advocated, or supported those who advocate, keeping these poor people from competing in First World labor markets on equal terms."

Usually you make the argument that open borders would be good for the people behind the wall, this last line doesn’t quite sound like that.
