While, as usual, I agree with what you say, having lived through the Covid tyranny, I watched all respect for freedom fly out the door when the general populace (even the smart and well-intentioned) were bathing daily in existential fear. My cries of freedom then were drowned out in screeches of "Safety!" and made-up BS morality cries of "you selfish bastard, you hate your fellow man for not wearing a mask and saying to get within six feet of another human being!" It may provide a good response in some cases, but it's not a panacea.
Great article. Have you ever read Leonard Peikoff’s essay ‘Fact and Value’?
I thought it was one of the best breakdowns, in a very short format, of the relationship between what is true and what is morally ‘good’. I was reminded of this when you wrote about the split in people’s minds between ‘economics’ and morals. I know you’re not an Objectivist, but I think, do a degree, you’re at least tacitly implying the connection between morality and economic success, as opposed to the common idea that they are separate fields which have nothing to do with each other.
Another great article Bryan.
This was *literally* what the Freedom Convoy did in Canada. It didn't work out so well for them. ☹ Perhaps Canada is a lost cause.
