This spring, I did a speaking tour of Eastern Europe. Full video from several of my talks is now up. Including but not limited to:
This fun podcast from Warsaw with Tomasz Agencki.
My keynote speech for Helpers Hungary’s Open Borders conference.
My conversation with leftist Green Hungarian economist Zoltán Pogátsa.
Two podcasts in Bratislava for INEES.
A talk on The Myth of the Rational Voter for Students for Liberty in Brno, Czechia.
My Annual Lecture for Prague’s Liberální Institut.
A lot of Americans thought I was crazy to go to Eastern Europe last March, but I’m very glad I ignored them!
P.S. Thanks to everyone who showed up for Capla-Con 2022. Hope you had a blast!
On the debate with Zoltán Pogátsa, the argument was welfare states have been good for social mobility, and you blushed a bit there.
It's widely believed, but might not actually be true.
James Heckman has done probably the deepest possible analysis of Denmark on social mobility and found no significant differences in social mobility compared to countries with lower welfare spending: https://hceconomics.uchicago.edu/news/research-spotlight-lessons-denmark-about-inequality-and-social-mobility
Bryan, big thanks for your activism and actions in Central and Eastern Europe. It is very important at the moment due to many problems as regarding democracy and rule of law. It is a bad moment for Europe.
