Yes, ridiculous. People might as well ask, "why not just let people murder their boss to clear up the path to promotion?"

Bryan,

You mention that Kass' point of young people being denied advancement and leadership positions is "irrelevant for advanced capitalist economies. In a passably free labor market, talented young people don’t have to wait for retirements to get promoted." That strikes me as odd for someone who regularly makes the claim that people are irrational in behavior. The free labor capitalistic market you seem to love and extoll only works to the extent that people behave economically rationally. The rule of the geriatrics is felt in our society. A quick look at our presidential candidates validates it. Most startups don't end with young people directing large companies, they end with young people selling and offloading their startups to multi-nationals for an early retirement. The ones in charge remain the established generation.
