I think there's a third option for dealing with the person in the audience: ignore her.

Um does anyone find shrimp welfare "intellectually engrossing"? I feel very confident that almost all EAs in animal welfare aren't nerd-sniped into helping shrimp (or other farmed animals), but rather pursue it because it looks incredibly important/effective. I think intellectual curiosity does bias people to prioritise AI risk and anthropics on non-veridical grounds, but also in practice AI risk does happen to be very real and urgent. (Anthropics could be important too, but I would guess it's discussed somewhat more than it needs to be on the margin.)
