I agree with BC that Chapter 4 is a bit curious. It is worth a speed read at best. Let us move on to why command and control by government operatives is always inferior to voluntary exchange. Did he say always? I have not read ahead, but I'm confident that Rothbard will get to it.

The part of this chapter I found most astonishing was that at his time California was debating lowering taxes

This is the 1978 edition, but I believe this chapter wasn't modified since the original 1973 edition. Does that help?

Haha yes, I meant more how striking the contrast is with California today. Hard to imagine that political climate now.
