I find it odd that you think that it is automatically not blameworthy to say (politely) something you deemed reasonable at the time. It seems possible to me that a proposition could seem reasonable to me now but where I later conclude that it was truly unreasonable—that it was blameworthy of me to find it reasonable. I agree that merely being having been wrong does not require an apology, but I would think the due diligence should go beyond just “seemed reasonable to me at the time.”

A reasonable precommitment. I would not think anything else. What makes you and those in your orbit different from other academics is politeness and the absence of personal attacks. I enjoy your commitment to these ideals and your thoughtfulness.
